Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi are apparently at odds with each other, so much so that the latter has filed for divorce. The root of the problem allegedly stems from the talk show host defending Kevin Hart regarding the homophobic tweet he posted years prior.
It can be recalled that the comedian landed in hot water after the tweet was uncovered, resulting in Kevin Hart opting to step down from hosting the upcoming Oscars. Following the uproar, Ellen DeGeneres reached out to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to reconsider Hart’s position. Apparently, this decision pissed Portia de Rossi so much that she wanted to divorce “Find Dory” voice actress, Star magazine (via Gossip Cop) reported.
“Portia [de Rossi] is disgusted by the way Ellen defended Kevin on her show… Ellen sat there on TV and listened to him moan and groan and encouraged him to rethink hosting the Academy Awards, saying she’d vouch for him. When Ellen [DeGeneres] actually called the Academy on Kevin’s behalf, Portia raised hell – and said they were through,” an unnamed source allegedly told the publication.
But given that Star is peddling this narrative, it’s best to take their word with a grain of salt since they have a history of fabricating stories. As for Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi, there’s no indication that the two are fiercely arguing behind closed doors.
Judging by Portia de Rossi’s Instagram account, the couple doesn’t appear to be at odds with each other. In fact, the Australian-American model seems as happy as ever with Ellen DeGeneres.
What’s true about the couple at the moment is that they are still trying to decide what’s best for the talk show host’s career, The New York Times reported. Portia de Rossi expressed her desire for her partner to leave “The Ellen Show” as it constraints the latter’s other talents. However, Ellen DeGeneres’ brother is urging her to stay as the show provides a lot of positivity for its viewers, something that the country is in dire need lately.
