When the Bassetts arrived at the store, Eckrich surprised them with a gift of free groceries for a year at Albertsons, valued at more than $10,000. As part of the event, crowds of shoppers were treated to live country music and samples of delicious Eckrich smoked sausage and deli meat.
James Bassett, a specialist in the United States Army, served honorably for five years as a Human Resources Specialist during Operation Enduring Freedom. Bassett was awarded several medals and ribbons, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He and his wife, Michelle, have been married for seven years and have two children. Michelle is a peer support facilitator for Operation Homefront's Hearts of Valor® program, a network of more than 3,000 caregivers of wounded service members which provides annual retreats, support groups, and online communities.
"This is a huge blessing," said Michelle Bassett. "It warms our hearts knowing that even after returning from deployment, companies like Eckrich and Albertsons are recognizing military families."
The surprise is part of the ongoing campaign by Eckrich to honor, thank, and support military families through its partnership with Operation Homefront. Eckrich, in its sixth year of partnership with Operation Homefront, has donated more than $2.5 million to the organization since 2012. Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.
“Eckrich is proud to continue to support military families across the country,” said Jennifer Zmrhal, Smithfield Foods senior director of marketing. “We appreciate the partnership from Albertsons and we are honored to present the Bassett family with a year of free groceries.”
