Lovoy’s practice focuses on banking and financial services, compliance, and data privacy and cybersecurity. She represents a variety of consumer financial service providers including banks, residential mortgage lenders and servicers, and automotive and personal property finance companies. In addition, Lovoy advises financial services companies, retailers, and other companies on compliance with federal and state privacy and data protection requirements. She has assisted several clients with investigations and responses to data security breaches and ransomware attacks.
“Elena’s experience with the issues our consumer financial services clients face enhances our existing strengths in representing consumer financial services providers. Elena’s background in cybersecurity and data privacy will also be valuable to the financial services providers we work with, as this is one of their top concerns,” said Mark S. Edelman, who chairs the firm’s nationwide Consumer Financial Services Compliance practice group.
“We are excited to add an attorney of Elena’s caliber to our Birmingham team,” said Christopher A. Bottcher, who leads McGlinchey Stafford’s Birmingham office. "Her knowledge of, and experience with, compliance and data security adds valuable depth and an additional resource for our financial services clients.”
Lovoy is certified by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics as a Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), and by the International Association of Privacy Professionals as an Information Privacy Professional/United States and Canada (CIPP/US and C). She is a frequent industry speaker and author on consumer financial services regulatory compliance topics, and is also an instructor for the Ellie Mae/AllRegs Mortgage Compliance for Origination course.
“I am excited to rejoin such a dynamic and impressive group of professionals I’ve known for years,” said Lovoy. “I look forward to working with McGlinchey Stafford’s Consumer Financial Services Compliance group again to guide clients through the compliance, data privacy, and cybersecurity challenges they face.”
Lovoy received her J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1987. She also holds an M.B.A. (1992) from the University of Alabama, Manderson Graduate School of Business, and a B.S. in Corporate Finance and Investment Management (1984) from the University of Alabama. She is admitted to practice in Alabama, Louisiana, and Illinois.
McGlinchey Stafford’s Birmingham office, founded in August 2015, now has six attorneys. Recently settled in a new downtown location to accommodate its expanding Alabama presence, the firm’s Birmingham attorneys focus on representing clients in the areas of tax, business transactions, financial services litigation and compliance, commercial real estate, and commercial and corporate litigation.
