REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 06, 2016 -- California Neurohealth announced a step by step plan to help patients better identify their food hypersensitivities. A food hypersensitivity is “a state of altered reactivity in which the body reacts with an exaggerated immune response to a foreign agent”, according to Dorland's Medical Dictionary for Health Consumers. Problems arising from undiagnosed food hypersensitivities may include migraine headaches, chronic pain, asthma, IBS and eczema. The team at California Neurohealth recently disclosed a process for identifying food hypersensitivities.
Elham Khodabandeloo, Licensed Acupuncturist at California Neurohealth is raising awareness about the importance of identifying and treating food hypersensitivities. Khodabandeloo says, "Food allergies are the best-known type of food hypersensitivity; a food allergy triggers an immediate and potentially life-threatening response, but the majority of hypersensitivities are far more subtle in causing health problems over an extended period, making diagnosis more difficult."
“The majority of people with food hypersensitivities do not experience a life-threatening or acute medical crisis when they consume a specific food,” commented Khodabandeloo as a traditional Chinese medical practitioner. “Instead, these individuals develop symptoms slowly over time. Consequently, it can be difficult for patients to realize these symptoms are actually correlated with food intake. The straightforward steps in this practice makes it easy to find the parallels between food intake and poor health.”
To begin Khodabandeloo recommends that patients start by keeping a daily food diary and recording what they eat each day. “Patients need to be vigilant in recording every single bite,” said Khodabandeloo L.Ac. “When patients start looking back or have California Neurohealth seek patterns in their food diaries after a few weeks, they can often draw correlations between eating habits and health complaints.”
The next step is to eliminate the food or foods that are bothersome. For example, Khodabandeloo proposes that if patients suspect that they may be hypersensitive to eggs, eggs should be completely eliminated for at least six to eight weeks so that the body can adapt. “After six weeks and receiving the appropriate in-office treatments, patients can slowly reintegrate foods in their diet. They should continue recording their symptoms in the food diary and compare to prior to the elimination diet,” suggested Khodabandeloo.
California Neurohealth coordinates food hypersensitivity lab testing as well as complementary therapies such as acupuncture and herbal medicine and nutritional supplements to support the body's natural recovery process. “Acupuncture can be helpful for reducing gut inflammation, harmonizing digestive function, and regulating bowel movements to reduce IBS.” Once the gut is healed, often the body again develops tolerance for the offending food.”
