Briferendum Aftermath Series: Angela Merkel warns on Brexit damage to EU after surviving assassination attempt

World’s most powerful woman, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel survived an attack while visiting the Czech Republic. Czech police detained a man, who attempted to breach a motorcade with using a black Mercedes. There were no guns but items like handcuffs and tear-gas. She certainly doesn’t look so popular. He rating has dropped throughout the European Union after the refugee crisis. She is now seen by many in Europe as the reason, why Europe can’t close its border to Muslim refugees. Merkel was in Prague to meet Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the attempt was made while she was going to the Airport.

There were thousands of demonstrators in Prague protesting against her open door refugee policies. She later arrived in Warsaw to attend a meeting of the Visegrad group of countries, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic. These are the countries, which have been most vocal critique of the refugee policies of the EU and have demanded that some powers be returned from Brussels after the UK referendum. Speaking at the reporters after the meeting, Ms. Merkel warned, “Brexit is not just an event. It could be a breaking point in the history of the EU……We must formulate the correct response to it.”

27 members of the European Union would be meeting on September 16th in Bratislava and Merkel is touring Europe to formulate a joint response before that meeting.
