Blockchain startup LBRY releases beta app

LBRY, blockchain-based content sharing and publishing platform has announced the beta release of LBRY app, live blockchain and major content deals on 4th July.

Due to the high cost involved in storing and serving bunch of content, the marketplace is dominated by likes of Google’s Youtube, Apple’s iTunes, and Amazon’s Kindle Store. The LBRY app, a platform that is accessible and decentralized, combines several new open-source technologies and key innovations and cut outs the middlemen.

The LBRY app will be the first of its kind media marketplace powered by blockchain which enables everyone to use it with ease. The beta is initially ‘invite-only’ in order to allow a gradual scaling of the network. The release of app comprises a LBRY client with one-click installation for Linux and OS X.
 

The LBRY app will enable filmmakers, musicians, writers, or software developers to get equipped and make it easy for them to set their own price and release their works globally. LBRY will not take portion of income and there is no involvement of ads or corporate censors.

Oscilloscope Laboratories, a film production and distribution company and Emergent Order that offers integrated strategy, production, and marketing for media have been signed as featured content partners.

Beta users will be treated to watch premium films like ‘It’s A Disaster’, ‘Fight of the Century: Keynes vs. Hayek Rap Battle’ and can interact with the platform and generate income. After receiving the beta access, they can also begin mining new token - LBRY credits and more.

LBRY is a sharing platform that uses blockchain technology to enable users to publish material and get paid for doing so. Recently, a major independent Hollywood film was publicly screened via blockchain by LBRY during PorcFest XIII.
