Bitmain announces first Ethereum ASIC miners

Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer Bitmain has officially announced Antminer E3 – which it describes as the most powerful and efficient EtHash ASIC miner.

CoinJournal reported that Antminer E3 is the first miner capable of mining Ether and other cryptocurrencies using the Ethash algorithm. Until now, Ether could only be mined by using CPUs or GPUs found in gaming computers.

According to the details provided on Bitmain’s website, shipping for all orders would begin in July. Antminer E3 is priced at $800 per unit.

Furthermore, in order to limit reselling and bulk buying the company is restricting shipments to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.

Founded in 2013, Bitmain Technologies is headquartered in Beijing, with offices in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Tel Aviv, Qingdao, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. It was established to develop and sell the bitcoin miners using Bitmain's ASIC chip technology. Over the past couple of years, the company has released a number of cryptocurrency mining devices and is the parent of several brands, among them Antminer, Antpool, and Hashnest.
