'Avatar 3' Release Date and Spoilers: All Things Fans Should Know By Now

Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming "Avatar 3."

Earlier this year, it was revealed that "Avatar 3" was one of several major blockbuster films that had been delayed by the industry, with the initial goal being to release the films two years apart, commencing in 2024. However, the enthusiasm for the threequel hasn't died down, with fans already suggesting that "spoilers" may be found in The Way of Water's special features.

One year after the sequel, James Cameron appears to be sticking to his new projected release date, much to the delight of fans.

‘Avatar 3’ Release Date Confirmed

Director James Cameron of “Avatar 3” has revealed that the threequel will be published on December 19, 2025. During a press conference in New Zealand, Cameron said the post-production process for Avatar was "hectic," according to Variety.

The filmmaker also stated that he intends to continue making Avatar films in New Zealand "indefinitely," implying that Avatar 4 and 5 would likely follow in the footsteps of the threequel. “Avatar 3” will be published on December 19, 2025, followed by “Avatar 4” on December 21, 2029, and “Avatar 5” on December 19, 2031.

“We’re working on [Avatar] 3 right now, trying to get it out the door with the visual effects [and] handoff process. Before anything could be rendered, Jim’s got these cameras, right? That’s where the shots come from [and is] a step that you know before you hand it off. We’re busily improving and prepping the sets to get ready for that process,” production designer Ben Procter told Sci-Fi and Fantasy Gazette.

“As far as teasing anything more, that is not in my job description. That’s maybe in John Jon Landau’s if you try, [but] that is not mine. All I can say is that we started on this in 2013, with a team that grew and contains so many wonderful people. We’ve been working on it as an overall world, with many interesting places to go and things to see from the very beginning. And so I’ll just say, I can’t tell you what’s coming, but I can tell you a lot of cool stuff is coming,” he went on.

Cameron has lately been "teased" with suggestions that “Avatar 3” - which follows the "darker" fire Na'vi - shows many parallels to “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” “Avatar 3” will hit theaters in December 2025.

‘Avatar 3’ Spoilers

“Avatar 2” director James Cameron revealed a major change for the franchise's third movie. The first Avatar sequel, “The Way of Water,” is still in cinemas, but plans are already well underway for “Avatar 3” release. Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, was the narrator for the first two movies.

However, for the third installment in the franchise, Cameron announced in an interview with Soundtracking that Lo'ak will be featured as the narrator instead. "I'm going to take a moment when the dust clears to assess what people loved and what they responded to the most in this current release, and then I may go back and tinker a little bit," James Cameron told “Soundtracking” host Edith Bowman.
