Atlético de Madrid is partnering with digital asset platform Whalefin and Web3 fitness app STEPN to release 1,001 NFT sneakers featuring their players, trophies, and stadium.
The first Atlético Madrid release, dubbed the Genesis Collection, has 200 pairs of footwear.
Owners receive special advantages from them, such as access to limited-edition WhaleFin NFT airdrops, bonus interest coupons, and exclusive signed jerseys. Such offline advantages have never previously been offered with a STEPN Genesis collection.
For Atlético Madrid, the move-to-earn STEPN concept distinguishes this particular cooperation from other sports clubs' use of blockchain technology.
According to STEPN’s Chief Revenue Officer Mable Jiang, the partnership aims to connect the exercise world to the Web3 space and provide tangible, real-world rewards for global fans who own a pair of NFT sneakers from the Genesis collection.
Given how footwear firms have started experimenting with this NFT genre, it is especially intriguing that Whalefin chose to work with a sports club rather than a shoe company.
