Apple to Introduce OLED Screens in Future iPad Pro Models

Apple plans to introduce OLED screens in upcoming iPad Pro models.

Since 2017, Apple has embarked on a gradual shift towards OLED technology, initiating this move with the iPhone X and the first Apple Watch. Despite this progress, many of Apple's flagship products like iMacs, MacBooks, iPads, and standalone displays have continued to use LCD screens.

Current discussions and rumors hint at the possibility of the iPad Pro being the next device in Apple's lineup to receive an OLED screen, a development that is much awaited by enthusiasts and users alike.

The present 11-inch iPad Pro, equipped with an LCD screen, delivers satisfactory visuals when viewed directly. However, the display quality diminishes when viewed from an angle, appearing dimmer. This issue is less noticeable in laptops, which are typically used facing the screen directly but is more pronounced in iPads, particularly during activities like watching movies or engaging in gaming.

What OLED iPad Provides

The shift to OLED screens in the iPad Pro is expected to bring significant improvements in visual experience. OLED screens are renowned for their superior contrast and deeper blacks, which would greatly enhance media consumption, especially in content featuring dark scenes, such as horror games or movies.

Beyond just visual upgrades, OLED technology could introduce features like an always-on display mode, potentially transforming the iPad into a more dynamic and versatile smart display.

Recent reports from sources like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggest that Apple is planning to launch new OLED iPad Pro models in the coming year. These new models are anticipated to be the first major update in the product line in five years, likely available in 11-inch and 13-inch versions.

They are expected to incorporate LTPO technology, similar to that used in Apple Watches and recent iPhones, allowing for a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, thus enhancing display performance and energy efficiency.

The introduction of OLED technology into the iPad Pro series represents a significant evolution, promising not only improved display capabilities but also additional functionalities. This upgrade is poised to make the new iPad Pro a compelling choice for users looking to upgrade their devices.
