It looks like Alex Rodriguez would be joining athletes who have pursued a career in Hollywood.
The former baseball player reportedly signed a contract with ABC News that would have him appear on the network shows such as “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight” and “Nightline,” and even “Shark Tank.”
According to a source who knows about the deal, the 41 year-old is keen to expand his presence on TV. The source told the New York Post, “Alex is interested in doing lifestyle, family-oriented programming, such as a piece on how much your kids should be working out, or business and personal-finance reports, like how to overhaul your bills… This doesn’t mean that George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan should watch their backs — but ABC is talking to Alex about taking a role in the news division and expanding his appearances across a number of shows. Viewers are not going to see Alex weekly, more like once a month. But it could be more if he does well.”
The Washington Post said the new gig will not slow down his appearances on Fox Sports as an analyst.
CNN said the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, nor the terms of his contract. It is also not determined when he is expected to appear on an ABC show either. But it is no doubt that Rodriguez could fetch a multimillion-dollar deal. Moreover, his former team, the New York Yankees, are paying Rodriguez a whopping USD21 million as a guest instructor.
