SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 17, 2017 -- Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Executive Director Timothy Quinn issued the following statement today regarding the Senate confirmation of Brenda Burman as commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
“ACWA enthusiastically supports the confirmation of Brenda Burman as commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Brenda brings decades of water policy expertise to her new role. Having served as director of water policy for Arizona’s Salt River Project and as a special projects manager for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Brenda also has a keen understanding of the myriad of issues facing water managers in the West.
“It is a critical time for water policy in the United States – and especially in the West – as we look to upgrade our aging infrastructure and adapt to a changing climate. Brenda’s expertise on these and other issues makes her an excellent choice to assume the helm at the Bureau.
“Brenda also serves as a trailblazer for other women in the water profession—and to those who are contemplating joining the water profession – since she is the first woman to hold the top position in the Bureau.
“ACWA looks forward to a positive working relationship with Brenda.”
ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose 430+ members are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. For more information, visit www.acwa.com. ACWA also manages Save Our Water—the state’s official water conservation outreach program – in partnership with the California Department of Water Resources.
