The 2017 "The Game Awards" is almost here and nominees for the coveted Game of the Year title have been announced. Included on the list are Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Super Mario Odyssey, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. These titles were added to the list because each of them was also given six nominations for other awards.

There are 102 games and video game personalities in total that were nominated for The Game Awards this year, GameSpot reports. Nintendo is in the lead, with 23 nominations, closely followed by Sony with 15.

The awards will be given out on December 7th, with representatives from 51 media outlets covering video games attending. These representatives will be the ones to decide the winners of many of the awards, but their decisions can be influenced by the readers of their respective publications. The event also allows fans to vote in certain categories, including Best Esports Team and Best Esports Player.

Aside from the main Game of the Year award, there are also nominees for the category called Most Anticipated Game. These are titles that have yet to come out before the event commences and the list includes God of War, Monster Hunter World, and The Last Of Us Part II.

It seems that the organizers of the event also decided to add two new categories this year, Engadget reports. First is The Student Game Award, which recognizes the work of developers who are still in high school or college.

Then there’s the Best Ongoing Game award, which will help to cement the concept of “games as a service.” Basically, this is where online, multiplayer-only titles like Warframe and PUBG are recognized in their own specific category. Fans who are interested in watching the event Live can find a list of streaming options on the event’s official website.
