‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ star Cara Delevingne shared several sneak previews of her upcoming film on social media. She also admitted that UNHCR ambassador and award-winning actress Angelina Jolie inspired her career in the entertainment industry.
According to Teen Vogue, Delevingne offered a sneak preview of her upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film with director Luc Besson on her Instagram account. The 24-year old English fashion model and actress shared the film’s official poster featuring a spaceship landing in a desolate desert landscape against a backdrop of a sunrise. The poster was also unveiled at the recently concluded New York Comic-Con.
In addition to the film’s poster, Delevingne also shared two photographs from the film, which includes one of her and co-star Dane DeHaan as Laureline and Valerian, respectively, side-by-side in a shuttle’s cockpit. The other image was of her in her space outfit.
During a previous interview, Besson praised DeHaan and Delevingne’s on-screen chemistry as partners Valerian and Laureline. He said, "They are space agents. They go through time and space. And they are so cute… I fell in love with Laureline when I was 10. But I wanted to be Valerian."
The film’s plot follows special government operatives Valerian and Laureline tasked to go on a mission to the intergalactic city of Alpha to investigate and maintain order in the universe. Other members of the cast include Clive Owen, John Goodman, Rutger Hauer, Sam Spruell, and Kris Wu. The film is directed by Besson, who is best known for his work on several critically-acclaimed science-fiction films including 1990’s ‘Nikita’, 1997’s ‘The Fifth Element’, and 2014’s ‘Lucy’.
Meanwhile, Delevingne also shared her admiration for Angelina Jolie in a recent Instagram post, according to the Daily Mail. She captioned an image of Jolie from the UN’s Girl Up campaign with, “My admiration for Angelina Jolie is endless, I also admire anyone who transforms their pain into power. I admire unruly activists. I admire her continued involvement with the UN as a goodwill ambassador.”
Delevingne continued, “She is ruthless, determined and unforgiving in her efforts to make a difference for Refugee's. She also inspired me to follow my dreams into acting and have higher goals of one day becoming a director. I have chosen her as my #GirlHero today!”
Jolie worked as a United Nations’ goodwill ambassador beginning in 2001. She recently made headlines after filing for divorce from husband Brad Pitt.
‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film based on the French science-fiction comics ‘Valerian and Laureline’. It is produced by EuropaCorp, Fundamental Films and Gulf Films. It is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2017 in the United States.
