South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. sold a combined 227,919 EVs in Europe as of May, with Hyundai selling 131,719 units, and Kia totaling 96,200 units.
The two carmakers under the Hyundai Motor Group began selling EVs there in 2014.
Their cumulative EV sales in Europe surpassed 10,000 cars in 2017 and topped 100,000 last year.
This year, Hyundai and Kia have so far sold a combined 43,865 EVs in Europe, up 99.5 percent from last year.
The top-selling model in Europe was Hyundai's Kona EV, with sales of 91,302 units, followed by the Kia Niro EV with 58,774.
The two automakers expect more EV sales in Europe with their new EVs releases: Hyundai all-electric IONIQ 5 last month, and Kia's EV6 to be offered in the second half of the year.
Europe accounted for about 40 percent of last year's global EV of 3.24 million units.
To expand their EV infrastructure, Hyundai and Kia acquired a 20 percent stake in IONITY GmbH, which runs Europe's largest high-power EV charging station network.
