I achieved my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Queen’s University Belfast in 2012 and obtained my PhD in Health Psychology from QUB in 2018. My PhD focused on the development and evaluation of a psychological intervention to improve emotional wellbeing in individuals with Type 2 diabetes and their partners. During the PhD I worked as a research assistant for the Centre for Public Health at QUB on projects surrounding the enhancement of quality of life among persons with Neurological conditions. In July 2018 I joined the School of Psychology at QUB as a Health Psychology Lecturer and I am eager to contribute to the flourishing body of clinical health psychology research within the School.

Broadly, I am interested in the psychological, social, and organic factors that influence adjustment to health conditions such as Diabetes and Stroke. I am keen to explore new and more creative methods of psychological support for individuals with challenging health conditions, to develop resources that are ultimately more accessible and acceptable to both service users and facilitators. Current and prospective research avenues include enhancing psychological support for couples living with diabetes and exploring the support needs and preferences of children, young people and parents affected by diabetes. Additionally, I have an interest in Health Behaviour Change and I am involved in research which applies models of behaviour change to public health issues such as COVID-19 and environmental concerns such as plastic waste and recycling.
