Dr Claire Higgins is a Senior Research Fellow at the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, and an Affiliate Scholar at Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration. Her current research concerns the history of safe visa pathways for asylum seekers, as part of her Australian Research Council 'DECRA' fellowship (2020-2022). She is also completing a study of U.S 'in-country' refugee programs, as part of a collaboration fellowship at the Luskin Center for History & Policy at UCLA. Claire holds a doctorate in History from the University of Oxford, and her first book is 'Asylum by Boat: origins of Australia's refugee policy' (NewSouth, 2017).
