PhD Candidate, Department of Comparative Literature and Culture, Queen Mary University of London
Andrew Hines studied at both the University of Oregon and the University of Tübingen, obtaining a BA in Philosophy. He also holds a MA in Philosophy from University College Dublin and is currently a PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr Angus Nicholls in the department of Comparative Literature at Queen Mary, University of London. In 2013 he finished a year long term as managing editor of figureground.org.
His areas of specialisations include nineteenth and twentieth century European philosophy and linguistics, particularly in regards to the philosophical discourse about metaphor. He is interested in the history of how metaphor has been conceptually understood in Western culture, the relationship between metaphor and ideology and also the use language in politics and religion.
