Marine scientist with a keen interest in fisheries and stakeholder engagement including range of fisheries from industrial to artisanal. Work closely with traditional inhabitants in the Torres Straits on fin-fish such as Coral trout and Spanish mackerel. Research role: collecting and analysing biological and economic data from fisheries. Experience in ecological models and multidisciplinary research. Most published papers are on fishing fleet dynamics and choice - location choice or exit/entry to fisheries in the North Sea. Resided in Australia for last 10 years (since 2008); previously worked for CEFAS for 9 years in the UK (research fisheries centre - part of DEFRA-London) and sat on Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) - EU fisheries body (Brussels). Completed Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia (Fisheries Centre) in 2000. Masters in Environment and Development M.Phil. (Cambridge University - UK, 1992) and Masters in Quantitative Resource Ecology M.Sc. (i.e. fish stock assessment)(University Of Cape Town - RSA, 1993). Born in Cape Town, RSA.
