Experts have already predicted that the coronavirus cases in the United States will only go higher, as other countries outside of China such as Italy, Iran, and South Korea are already experiencing this increase. A new report reveals that the White House has quietly been taking measures to protect President Donald Trump and the staff from the virus.
The New York Post reveals that the White House staff are holding meetings to go over measures that can be taken to make sure Trump, the First Lady, and the rest of the White House staff will be protected from COVID-19. They have already imposed stricter security measures for visitors. Those who will be visiting the White House must disclose all the countries they have visited over the past 30 days, while other measures to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 into the White House have yet to be decided upon.
The group in charge of going over strict security measures as a response to COVID-19 is led by White House deputy chief of staff of operations Tony Ornato and is referred to as a “task force” that meets whenever necessary to go over potential threats.
Aside from those, there have already been hand sanitizer stations installed in the West Wing. According to a senior official, temperature checks may also be implemented in case the COVID-19 situation gets worse.
The Secret Service has already begun asking tourists and non-pass holding visitors to disclose the countries they have visited over the past 30 days. This measure also applies to journalists who do not have passes and guests who pass through the Eisenhower Executive Office building.
The Trump administration has continuously tried to assure the public that the coronavirus situation is under control. They have also tried to propose measures in order to keep the economy afloat as the global pandemic has since wreaked havoc on the market. Trump told the press during the White House briefing that he takes the same preventative measures with COVID-19 as he did with the flu.
“Wash your hands, stay clean, you don’t have to necessarily grab every handrail unless you have to - View this the same as the flu. When somebody sneezes, I mean, I try and bail out as much as possible when they’re sneezing,” said Trump.
