SAN JOSE, Calif., July 6, 2016 -- Whipsaw Inc, the Silicon Valley-based Industrial Design and Engineering firm that creates innovative products for companies around the globe, announces a silver MDEA award for the design of Outset Medical's Tablo™ System.

Tablo is a new technology aimed at driving service model innovation within hemodialysis, a cost-intensive area of healthcare that hasn't changed in 30 years. Tablo enables dialysis clinics to implement a new care delivery model—patient self-care—that could improve both the cost structure and patient experience of dialysis. By combining consumer product design, cloud-based data and real-time water purification, Tablo is designed to allow dialysis patients to manage their own dialysis independently while in the clinic, thereby increasing care ownership and engagement.
"The increased control and treatment flexibility Tablo offers to dialysis patients promises a dramatic improvement to their quality of life. We designed a highly advanced technological system that looks and feels more like a consumer product—rather than a medical device—to minimize patient apprehension and empower them to more actively participate in their treatment," said Dan Harden, President/CEO and Principal Designer of Whipsaw, Inc.
"Design excellence is an integral element of innovation in the Tablo System, which delivers a major leap forward in dialysis," said Leslie Trigg, CEO of Outset Medical. "We are pleased that Outset's collaboration with Whipsaw has received this recognition from the prestigious Medical Design Excellence Awards."
