‘Westworld’ season 1’s episode 9, entitled “The Well-Tempered Clavier”, is set to be the season’s penultimate episode and will follow Bernard and Dolores as they attempt to reconnect with their past. Meanwhile, HBO has renewed the series for season 2, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2018.
The synopsis for episode 9 posted on Comicbook.com reads, “Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) reconnect with their pasts; Maeve (Thandie Newton) makes a bold proposition to Hector (Rodrigo Santoro); Teddy (James Marsden) finds enlightenment, at a price.”
The incoming episode will feature Bernard as he comes to terms with his reality while Dolores struggles with her own. The Man in Black continues his hunt to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Maze while Maeve continues with her own rebellion.
In the promo, Bernard confronts Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) about going into his head to which the creator responds bluntly, “I built your mind.” Bernard asks, “What else have you hidden from me?”
It seems that Bernard will be trying to access his long-forgotten memories as he has not yet adjusted to the shock of being revealed as a robot. His anger towards Dr. Ford may make him an important asset in Maeve’s planned break-out from the park.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reported that the science-fiction Western-thriller television series has been renewed for a second season run. It will be composed of 10 episodes and is expected to return to HBO sometime in 2018, according to HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys.
Bloys said, “My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don’t have a date exactly – they’re going to have to map it out and write the scripts – but my guess is sometime in ‘18.”
He continued, “Jonah [Nolan] and Lisa [Joy] are great storytellers. I didn’t know exactly what to expect in season 2. And what they came up with is as exciting, mysterious and as fun as season 1. And completely original, as well.”
The series is based on the 1973 film of the same name, which was written and directed by novelist Michael Crichton. It takes place in a fictional world populated by androids called “hosts”, who cater to visitors called “guests” who seek to exploit the park and its residents for their own amusement.
‘Westworld’ season 1’s episode 9, entitled “The Well-Tempered Clavier”, is scheduled to air on HBO on November 27, 2016. It was directed by Michelle MacLaren and written by Dan Dietz and Katherine Lingenfelter. It will be followed by episode 10, entitled "The Bicameral Mind", directed by Jonathan Nolan and scheduled for release on December 4.
