‘Westworld’ season 1’s episode 8, entitled “Trace Decay”, is set to feature Dolores as she reaches what she calls “home” while Maeve attempts her escape from the park. Meanwhile, Bernard remembers his murder of Theresa and may retaliate against Ford in his anger.
The brief synopsis for “Trace Decay” posted on Cartermatt stated, “Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) struggles with a mandate; Maeve (Thandie Newton) looks to change her script; Teddy (James Marsden) is jarred by dark memories.”
The promo for episode 8 opens to Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) asking Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) why he was forced to kill his former love and park operations leader Theresa Cullen (Sidse Babett Knudsen). Ford quotes ‘Frankenstein’ in reply, "One man's life or death is but a small price to pay for the dominion I should acquire." Bernard, who is revealed to be a Host created by Ford in private, looks disgusted and angry after hearing this.
It is interesting how he could still recall his murder of Theresa when Ford obviously has the power to wipe-out those memories since his big robot reveal. According to Parent Herald, Bernard may possibly be tasked at resurrecting Theresa as a Host and may return to Westworld as a robot. However, there is also the likelihood that Bernard may retaliate against his creator.
The clip also features Maeve (Thandie Newston) continuing her attempts at escaping the park. She is looking to change her script, which she calls “sophisticated.” She then makes an ultimatum, “I’m getting out.”
Meanwhile, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) reaches what she calls “home.” When William warns her, “This place isn’t good for you,” she replies that it is what Arnold wants and she continues the story of the creator.
The Man in Black (Ed Harris) also returns from his absence from the last episode. He discusses his ambitions of finding the center of the maze while referencing Arnold as well. He says, "The rules of this place hold you back--but I know how to change them."
Meanwhile, Teddy (James Marsden) also struggles as he is haunted by memories of his past. Perhaps he is remembering past lives.
‘Westworld’ season 1’s episode 8, entitled “Trace Decay”, is scheduled to air on HBO on November 20, 2016. It was directed by Stephen Williams and written by Charles Yu and Lisa Joy. It will be followed by episode 9, entitled "The Well-Tempered Clavier", scheduled for November 27, 2016.
