Earlier this week, Twitter became battleground for Donald Trump and Jeff Bezos. GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump sent out several tweets on Monday against Jeff Bezos and his company:
“The @washingtonpost, which loses a fortune, is owned by @JeffBezos for purposes of keeping taxes down at his no profit company, @amazon.”
“If @amazon ever had to pay fair taxes, its stock would crash and it would crumble like a paper bag. The @washingtonpost scam is saving it!”
“@washingtonpost is going out of its way to tell failing candidates how to beat Donald Trump. The Post doesn’t get that I’m good at winning!”
It all started with an article titled, “Trump’s claim that he ‘predicted Osama bin Laden’”, published on The Washington Post, CNET reported. The sarcastic article not only falsified that Trump’s claims about his prediction regarding Osama bin Laden and terrorism but also said that he “earns four Pinocchios.”
One may very well ask as to how this article is linked to Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon.com and private space exploration company Blue Origin. The answer is that Bezos bought The Washington Post in 2013.
The Post, however, pointed out that Trump went wrong with facts: “Amazon doesn't own The Washington Post. Bezos's holding company — Nash Holdings — does. And, as you might guess, a company as large as Amazon does pay taxes — a lot of them.”
Bezos tweeted back an apt response, “Finally trashed by @realDonaldTrump. Will still reserve him a seat on the Blue Origin rocket. #sendDonaldtospace”.
Geek Wire reported that Bezos was retweeted over 700 times, and his hashtag was used by about 23 different account within an hour.
