The Welsh government has approached Japan’s Hitachi Ltd. about keeping alive the Horizon nuclear power project in Anglesey that the latter is scrapping.
It plans to assume a caretaker role until a developer can be found.
Hitachi's UK unit Horizon Nuclear Power failed to find private investors or secure sufficient government support for the stalled Wylfa project in Anglesey.
In September, Hitachi' announced it was scrapping plans to build the nuclear power plant.
A Hitachi spokeswoman said the company is in the midst of negotiations with the relevant governments.
Hitachi booked a $2.9 billion write-down in 2019 due to the suspension of the 3 trillion yen project.
