“Vikings” Season 6 has been greenlit by History even though season 5 has yet to be released. This is a testament to the show’s success, with the historical drama scoring 8.6/10 on IMBD and a whopping 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The show’s mother network has already confirmed that “Vikings” Season 6 will have 20 episodes, which is going to be split in two. Network executive Eli Lehrer remarked that the show has come a long way since it first began in March 2013, OtakuArt reported.
“'Vikings' has creatively sailed to monumental lengths. The series has evolved from early raids in England to the heart-stopping death of Ragnar Lothbrok, to the fierce battles of the Great Heathen Army, and now we’ll see the sons of Ragnar exploring and conquering the known world,” Lehrer said.
He went on to say that show creator Michael Hirst has but scratched the surface of the epic saga, implying that more is in store for diehard fans in the coming years. “Vikings” Season 6 is set to be filmed in several areas, but the majority of it will be shot in the mountainous regions of County Wicklow, Ireland.
“The Vikings are going ever outwards as raiders and traders. I’m writing season six now, and they’re in the Silk Road. They’re trading with the Russians, going to China, they’re all around the Mediterranean, and it’s actually what happened,” Hirst said.
The exact cast for “Vikings” Season 6 is still unclear given that the safety of the characters is always a consideration, especially in a show such as this. Indeed, recent rumors are circulating that a major character is going to be killed off in the next half of season 5.
The second part of season 5 is expected to return later this summer, although the exact date has yet to be disclosed. This goes for “Vikings” Season 6 as well, with the next installment presumed to be aired in 2019.
