Ever since Nina Dobrev’s character, Elena, was put in deep slumber in Season 6, there has been much speculation about the actor’s return to the TV drama before its season finale. After all, The scheduled series finale will air on March 10, 2017, and that fans are looking forward for Elena’s character to come full circle when the show ends.
The Huffington Post asked this question to Dobrev, who was pretty mum about it. She coyly told the media organization, “I haven’t ever told secrets in the past and I’m definitely not going to start now. Sorry guys, I’m not allowed to talk about that.”
She also reminded people her reason for leaving the show.
“When I left [’The Vampire Diaries’], it was at the right moment for me and I’ve been working really, really hard since then, for the last year-and-a-half, two years, maybe, on films and it’s been paying off and going well. It definitely is a tough road at the beginning to transition from one medium to another, but I’ve been very fortunate and very lucky so far.”
On the other hand, show creator Julie Plec expressed her enthusiasm about the possibility of Dobrev reprising her role, BuddyTV reported.
"I want to see this character to its end at the end of the show, so I can't wait to come back and put her to bed again," Plec said.
Meanwhile the Salvatore brothers are poised to make Episode 9 a trip to memory lane. TV Fanatic published teaser photos of the episode showing Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) returning to Mystic Falls at Sybil’s (guest star Nathalie Kelley) request just in time for the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. One of the photos showed Stefan and Damon both looking at Sybil descending the staircase, which was a clear nod to Elena’s descent from many seasons ago.
