US consumer sentiment ends 2015 on a solid footing

University of Michigan Index for consumer sentiment in December final estimate was revised upwards to 92.6, slightly over the preliminary estimate and the expectations.

Current conditions index was also revised up to 108.1, which is highest since June. The consumer expectations were revised up a tick, below the previous month's value but still above October's value.

Both these revisions were led by concerns related to personal finances, the current personal finances index climbed to 113, and predicted ones moved to 124.

Durables buying conditions now stand at 167, which is the highest since 2005 and consistent with persisting strength in the sales of motor vehicles.
"Sentiment now stands in line with its average pace of improvement over the course of the recovery, and we expect household consumption will continue to drive growth in 2016", says Barclays in a research note.
