U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to receive a high-level security briefing on Thursday regarding new military options targeting Iran, according to a report by Axios citing unnamed sources. The briefing will be led by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General Brad Cooper and is anticipated to outline several strategic scenarios involving potential military action.
Among the options reportedly prepared by CENTCOM is a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes aimed at key Iranian infrastructure. These targeted operations are designed to increase pressure on Tehran and potentially push Iranian leadership toward greater flexibility in ongoing nuclear negotiations with Washington.
Another proposal expected to be discussed includes a strategy to take control of parts of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. Securing this area would aim to ensure the uninterrupted flow of commercial shipping, particularly oil exports, which are vital to global energy markets. The plan could involve the deployment of U.S. ground forces, signaling a more direct and complex military engagement.
Additionally, officials may present a special operations plan focused on securing Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Such a move would represent a significant escalation, targeting Iran’s nuclear capabilities directly and raising broader geopolitical implications.
General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is also expected to attend the briefing, underscoring the seriousness of the discussions. The White House has not yet issued an official response regarding the reported plans.
This development highlights growing tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly surrounding nuclear issues and regional security. As Washington evaluates its military options, global attention remains fixed on how these decisions could impact diplomatic efforts, energy markets, and stability in the Middle East.
