Trump Presidency Is Viewed As A Disaster For Paris Climate Agreement

Even though Donald Trump has yet to assume the office of the President of the United States, many are already resigned to the huge possibility that his administration will be a disaster to a number of causes. These concerns range from healthcare to Net Neutrality, to climate change. With regards to the latter, in particular, a Trump presidency is considered a disaster for the recently signed Paris Climate Agreement.

The Climate Change Conference has just concluded, but the events during the confab are still ringing in the ears of environmental enthusiasts. The election of Trump as the next President of the United States is a troubling affair among global leaders due to his insistent denial of climate change and his threat to pull out of the Paris Agreement, The Guardian reports.

In terms of what the agreement was meant to accomplish, ensuring that the global temperature doesn’t rise above 2 degrees Celsius was one of the biggest. However, accomplishing this required the cooperation of every single nation that signed the agreement, and that included the United States.

With the current mandate within the Republican Party, which controls the Senate, the House of Congress, and the Presidency, chances are high that the UN can no longer count on the support of the U.S. in achieving this goal. If this ends up being the case, climate change reversal could become unattainable.

Futurism reports on the necessity of political support when it comes to doing acts that are meant to protect the environment. Global leaders who are adamant in stopping global warming and climate change know this all too well, especially those in Europe.

Several EU leaders are already expressing their concern regarding Trump’s position on the issue, with several governments threatening to impose carbon taxes on goods imported from the U.S. if the president decides to pull out of the agreement. On the other hand, UN leaders are still holding out on the possibility that Trump might change his mind and stay.
