U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, signaling renewed efforts to negotiate with Iran and backing controversial plans to relocate Palestinians from Gaza. Netanyahu stated both countries were in talks with nations willing to offer Gazans a “better future,” hinting at voluntary relocation options. Trump confirmed regional cooperation, saying, “Something good will happen.”
The meeting coincided with ongoing indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas in Doha, Qatar, where U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is set to join negotiations. The proposed deal includes phased Israeli troop withdrawals, hostage releases, and discussions on ending the nearly two-year Gaza war.
Trump revealed that Iran, reeling from recent U.S. and Israeli strikes, agreed to upcoming talks. He expressed willingness to lift sanctions “at the right time.” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also voiced optimism about U.S.-Iran dialogue.
Outside the White House, pro-Palestinian demonstrators condemned Netanyahu’s visit, citing war crimes allegations and calling for an end to U.S. support for Israel. Over 57,000 Palestinians have reportedly died in Gaza since Israel’s military response to Hamas’ October 2023 attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis and resulted in 251 hostages.
Trump’s push for a Gaza resolution includes pressure on Netanyahu to finalize a ceasefire. Despite internal opposition, Israel’s leadership may accept a deal if terms are met. Netanyahu presented Trump with a Nobel Peace Prize nomination letter during their private dinner, reinforcing their political alliance.
Meanwhile, humanitarian concerns persist, with famine threatening hundreds of thousands in Gaza. Hamas demands a complete end to the war before releasing remaining hostages, while Israel insists on dismantling the group first. With talks in Qatar ongoing, the world watches for signs of breakthrough.
