‘Transformers 5’ will mark the return of villain Megatron into the franchise. Meanwhile, a new Autobot is speculated to be added to the team.
According to IGN, director Michael Bay teased the return of franchise villain and Decepticon leader Megatron on an Instagram post. The announcement came as a shock for fans since Megatron was supposedly defeated by Optimus Prime in the third film, ‘Tranformers: Dark of the Moon’.
Bay’s Instagram announcement was followed with a teaser video on the official Transformers Twitter account. According to another article on Games Radar, Megatron’s return to the franchise may indicate that he is set to be the central antagonist in Paramount’s planned follow-ups in the next few years.
Akiva Goldsman headed an impressive writers’ room which included Ken Nolan, Robert Kirkman, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Jeff Pinkner (Fringe), and Steven DeKnight to strategize the next films in the ever-growing science-fiction and action franchise. Goldsman admitted in a previous interview that he intended for the new films to interconnect as well as stand alone.
It is not known whether Megatron will be getting his own standalone film in ‘The Transformers’ franchise, but plans of a sixth film as well as a Bumblebee spin-off have already been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Bay shared the first photograph on-location in Cuba on his Instagram account. According to Cinema Blend, it featured a bright green vintage Chevy convertible.
The post lead to numerous speculations that a new Autobot would somehow make it on the fifth film. It was also speculated that the automobile may be used as a getaway car for one of the film’s protagonists in case it didn’t turn out to be an Autobot.
No confirmation has been made of this issue as of the moment. The chances of it being a random car that caught Bay’s attention remain high.
‘Transformers 5’, officially titled ‘Transformers: Last Knight’, is an upcoming science-fiction and action film directed by Michael Bay. It stars Mark Wahlberg as human protagonist Cade Yeager, Isabela Moner as the street-smart tomboy Izabella, Josh Duhamel as human soldier Lt. Col. William Lennox, and Peter Cullen as the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime.
The film is produced under Hasbro Studios and di Bonaventura Pictures and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Akiva Goldsman, and Don Murphy are producing while Bay and Steven Spielberg are executive producing.
It is a sequel to ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction, which earned $1.10 billion in the worldwide box office against a $210 million budget despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics.
