“Timeless” Gets Uncanceled At The 11th Hour, NBC Renews Show For Season 2

This weekend, the cast and crew of NBC’s new sci-fi series “Timeless” received news that the show got cancelled, and now un-cancelled, thanks to the support of its early-adopter fans.

The show, which chronicles the unlikely trio of Lucy (Abigail Spencer), a historian, Rufus (Malcolm Barrett), an IT expert, and Wyatt (Matt Lanter), a soldier, as they go back in time to help keep history from getting changed by the antics of a master criminal (Goran Visnjic), was initially canceled by the network supposedly because of its dismal viewership. Entertainment Weekly notes that the series averaged 8 million total viewers and a 2.1 in the 18-49 demographic, but dropped significantly for its finale.

However, it appears that the network bosses had a change of heart, thanks to the strong reaction from fans. Deadline said “Timeless” was a the top in USA Networks’ Save Our Shows poll. The Hollywood Reporter said the renewal was because of a new financial deal between NBC and production company Sony.

Co-creator Erik Kripke said “Timeless” will return to NBC for a 10-episode Season 2, which will most likely debut next spring or summer. He said in a series of tweets, “The #TimeTeam went back 3 days, and changed history. @nbc picked us up for 10 episodes. Seriously. Airs next summer. #TimelessRenewed”

“Correction. Info moving fast. We're airing sometime in 2018, not sure when. But we're airing! #ResuscitateTimeless”

Spencer posted a long chain of tweets documenting her feelings about the decision, and wrote, “1) I have been in this business for almost 20 years & never have I ever experienced anything like what has happened today & this week...[Thanks to] 6) our writers & entire creative team for being rad and doing the impossible... AND most of all our fans!!! YOU DID THIS!”
