This weekend, a Facebook post became viral when it seemed to confirm that an off-season of NBC’s hit series “Friends” is happening.
Buzzfeed said the image appears to be of a poster that shows the popular picture frame with the words “Fall 2018” and the NBC logo. The poster was published on a Facebook page supposedly by actor David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller in the series. It has since been deleted now.
It was not a shock for for fans to quickly believe in the post. NBC revived also a 90’s classic, “Will & Grace,” also the same week with a post looking similar to the fake David Schwimmer. TVGuide said that although it looked real, which had fooled a lot of people evidently, the poster and the announcement is a hoax. The site points out that the account holder’s name has even misspelled the actor’s name, which was incorrectly spelled as “David Schwimer.” The Facebook handle, @RossGheler, is also incorrect.
Although NBC has yet to categorically deny the Facebook announcement, a couple of the “Friends” cast has already came out earlier to dismiss the possibility of the hit TV show getting a reboot. During one interview, she said, “I don’t know what we would do. I think that period of time was sort of nostalgic. I think why people have such an affection for it is because, even though it was only 12 years ago when it ended — or 13, it’s getting father and father away — there was something about a time where our faces weren’t shoved into cell phones and we weren’t checking Facebook and Instagram. We were in a room together or in a coffee shop together and we were talking, having conversations. We’ve lost that.”
