New York, NY and Palo Alto, CA , Sept. 05, 2017 -- Thyra Global Management, announced its investment in the Metawave seed round, announced earlier today. Lead investor in the successful round, Thyra Global is a private equity and venture capital firm with investments in real estate, technology and consumer markets.
Thyra’s technology investments have previously been focused on SaaS businesses (e.g. LaunchMetrics, Livestream, Virtru), but Metawave represents Thyra’s inaugural investment in its new Thyra Future Fund, early-stage investments in technologies that enable level four and five autonomy in transportation, and helping to create the next “mobility” internet.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Dennis and his talented team and have been grateful to receive their valuable direction since the very beginning. Thyra has been instrumental throughout the seed funding phase and enabling us to start hiring and building prototypes before the final closing of the round,” said Metawave’s CEO Dr. Maha Achour.
Metawave builds wireless technology platforms using engineered metamaterials and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to change existing wireless systems and communication infrastructures, initially for self-driving cars and 4G / 5G wireless communications. CEO, Dr. Maha Achour and CTO, Dr. Bernard Casse, proven leaders in the fields of wireless and metamaterials technologies, are leading the company, gaining strategic advice and direction from investors, including Dennis Paul, Thyra Global’s founder and managing member.
Dennis Paul said, “Metawave has an opportunity to change the way the auto industry thinks about radar, adding a smart radar solution using active, affordable metamaterials and AI, bringing the self driving car to the next level. Of course, the auto industry is an enormous market opportunity, but there are several additional applications for this innovative technology platform, including 4G and 5G. We look forward to working with their talented team to take advantage of these markets.”
