‘Thor: Ragnarok’ has commenced filming in Australia. Chris Hemsworth, who plays the titular god of thunder, teased “big and little changes” in a recent Instagram post leading to new speculations about his hammer Mjolnir.
According to the Daily Mail, lead stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Mark Ruffalo are in Australia for the filming of their upcoming film ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ directed by Taika Waititi. A photograph of the filming set in Queensland's Movie World showed a multi-story complex constructed for the beginning of principal photography.
Marvel’s Louis D’Esposito, who serves as executive producer in the sequel, announced the beginning of production through Twitter last July 4. He posted, “Best of luck to @TaikaWaititi and the whole cast and crew of #ThorRagnarok. July 4 they started filming. Australia is in the future.”
D’Esposito expressed his enthusiasm over filming in Australia during a previous interview with Digital Spy. He said, “We are very excited to bring this film to such an incredible locale… Marvel Studios would like to thank the Queensland Government for helping to make this a reality.” The film will reportedly spend $100 million in Queensland as well as provide more jobs for its residents during the period of production.
Hemsworth returns to play Thor and will be joined by Hiddleston as Loki and Ruffalo as Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk. According to /Film, Jaimie Alexander will also appear as Sif, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Idris Elba as Heimdall. New additions to the cast include Cate Blanchett as the new villain Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.
Waititi also teased that he was planning to make a cameo in the new film besides tackling his directorial duties. The upcoming sequel will reportedly draw inspiration from the original Planet Hulk storyline in the comic books.
Ruffalo previously described the upcoming film as an “intergalactic buddy road movie” between the Hulk and Thor. He also revealed that Blanchett’s Hela will be a force to be reckoned with. He said, “She plays the worst of the worst. So evil… She is going to kill us. It’s such a great part she gets to play.”
Meanwhile, Hemsworth trolled fans on his Instagram account by posting a photograph of a regular hammer captioned, “#Thor3, expect big and little changes @taikawaititi”. According to Metro, this post led to new speculations over a possible transformation for Thor’s famous Mjolnir. It was also rumored that Thor will somehow lose his trusty war hammer at some point in the film.
‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Taika Waititi and written by Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle, Eric Pearson, and Christopher Yost. It is produced by Kevin Feige with Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Thomas M. Hammel, Stan Lee, and Brad Winderbaum executive producing.
It is scheduled to premiere on November 3, 2017 and is intended as the fifth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Phase Three. It follows ‘Thor: The Dark World’, which achieved commercial success after earning $644.6 million in the worldwide box office.
