‘This Is Us’ TV Series Cast, Updates: Milo Ventimiglia Reacts to his Nudity on Trailer, Talks Filming Awkward Intimate Scenes with Co-Star Mandy Moore

‘This Is Us’ star Milo Ventimiglia admitted that he was just as surprised as viewers to see his own nakedness on the upcoming series’ trailer. He also opened up about filming awkward intimate scenes with co-star Mandy Moore, who plays his on-screen wife.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ventimiglia recalled his surprise after seeing his own naked behind flash for a few seconds on the upcoming NBC series’ trailer. The 39-year old actor plays one of the lead characters in the new series.

He remembered telling himself during filming that the specific scene would be censored and that it would be edited to be more tasteful for television. He said, “They can’t show this stuff on TV, it’s no big deal. They’re gonna cut and get a side of my hip, or anything like that… But no, when I saw the trailer I’m like, ‘Wow, man, that is my ass and that is my ass before my face. Okay, here we go.’” 

During an appearance at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual Grants Banquet in Los Angeles, Ventimiglia explained, “I got to set on day one of filming, walked into my trailer, and I saw varying sizes of nude cloth and tape… And I’ve done [nude scenes] enough times to know exactly strategically how to place my manhood, so as to be respectful of the crew and my costar.” 

Co-star Mandy Moore joked, “I know full well that we’ve all been upstaged by the derriere. And I’m totally fine with it. It’s a really good butt. And I got to look at it for almost a whole day.”

She added, “He seemed so comfortable. Like, I don’t know if this is true, but he seems like the kind of guy that would totally be fine to walk around in the nude… I guess if you work that hard for a body like that, I would probably walk around naked all the time, too.” 

During an interview with Variety, Moore and Ventimiglia talked about filming their awkward intimate scenes for the upcoming television series. Moore recalled “wearing a 35-pound prosthetic belly” during filming while getting the opportunity to stare at her co-star’s nakedness the entire day. She said, “But he’s such a lovely gem of a guy and very respectful and I feel very lucky to get to work with him,” she added.

Ventimiglia also praised Moore’s performance saying, “She’s committed to her work, so it was easy to jump into that role of intimacy, and being husband and wife.”

‘This Is Us’ is an upcoming television series created by Dan Fogelman. It is scheduled to premiere on NBC on September 20, 2016.
