This week’s episode of “This Is Us” season 3 finally showed Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Nicky (Michael Angarano) in some of their crucial moments during the Vietnam-American War. Viewers who loved this ultimate throwback to the Pearson patriarch will be delighted that more wartime scenes will be shown in the upcoming episodes.
The first two seasons of the show somehow touched on the subject of Jack’s dysfunctional family. But “This Is Us” season 3 will further explore how his younger brother, Nicky, practically taught him how to love his own family unconditionally.
Many mysteries surrounding Jack’s personality were answered in “This Is Us” season 3 episode 4 (“Vietnam”), including his heart condition that might have contributed to his later death. But showrunner Dan Fogelman also hinted that there will be more on this storyline in the next installments. “We have a direct pickup coming a couple of episodes later,” Fogelman said.
Fogelman also confirmed that most of the upcoming scenes in “This Is Us” season 3 were actually filmed in Vietnamese locations. However, the sequences included in the “Vietnam” episode was actually shot in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, another major topic in “This Is Us” season 3 is also yet to be addressed — Nicky’s death. Viewers know that the younger Pearson died in the war and their father had had Jack to blame for it ever since. This is one clear indication that the fans will see more of the brothers' storyline in the remaining episodes.

Ventimiglia also promised that the “Vietnam” episode was “just the beginning” of uncovering the truths about Jack’s past and how deep Nicky’s influence was on him before meeting Rebecca (Mandy Moore)." Reports note that Jack and Nicky’s time in the war serves as the main storyline to be revisited in flashback scenes for the most part of “This Is Us” season 3.
The fifth episode of “This Is Us” season 3 is slated to air next week. It is titled “Toby" and will show Kevin (Justin Hartley) meeting a person connected to Jack’s past while Randall (Sterling K. Brown) “embarks on a new journey.” As for Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan), they are going to receive “big news” presumably associated with their attempt at having a baby. A new episode of this family drama airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
