‘This Is Us’ Season 1, Episode 8 Spoilers: “Pilgrim Rick” – Randall Learns Rebecca’s Secret on Thanksgiving; Kate, Toby Break Up?

‘This Is Us’ season 1’s episode 8, entitled “Pilgrim Rick”, will follow Randall as he learns Rebecca’s  life changing secret during a Thanksgiving reunion. Meanwhile, Kate and Toby may split up following her diet crisis.

The synopsis for episode 8 posted on Cartermatt reads, “As Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and the three kids make their way to Rebecca’s parents’ house for their traditional Thanksgiving holiday, an unforeseen detour occurs.

Kate (Chrissy Metz) makes two drastic life-changing decisions. Kevin (Justin Hartley) brings Olivia (Janet Montgomery) to Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) house for Thanksgiving. Randall’s heart is broken when he learns about a lifelong secret his mother has kept from him.”

The incoming episode will feature the Pearsons coming together for their traditional Thanksgiving celebrations. However, more secrets will be spilled. Randall will finally learn a big secret Rebecca has been keeping from him for years.

The promo opens to Randall waking his children up enthusiastically for the holidays. The next scene featured the young family’s car breaking down before they could get to where they were supposed to go. The children ask about what they should do to which Jack replies, “We walk.” It seems that they would end up somewhere unexpected.

Meanwhile, Kate and Toby (Chris Sullivan) continue to struggle with their relationship troubles. It seems that Kate is trying to break up with her boyfriend following her diet crisis in the promo. She says, “I’ve got to get a handle on my weight and I want it more than anything right now.”

Toby asks her with concern, “Even more than me?” Things don’t look too good for the couple.

During an interview with US Weekly, Metz revealed, "Things come out, and people have skeletons in the closet and things that we're contending with… So you'll see that affect her relationship for sure." She continued, "(Toby) is trying really hard [to be a good boyfriend]! But you know what? Keep watching. You might think differently — who knows!"

Metz revealed that the incoming episode will feature more drama for the Pearson family saying, "When families get together, everything bubbles up to the surface, and it's all heightened because it's the holidays. You're supposed to just mind your p's and q's, but there's a lot going on in the family that we haven't really seen yet."

Meanwhile, Randall and Rebecca will share a fond embrace upon seeing each other again. However, the final moments in the promo revealed that Randall will not be too happy to hear about his mother’s lifelong secret. Perhaps their once loving relationship will never be the same again.

‘This Is Us’ season 1’s episode 8, entitled “Pilgrim Rick”, is scheduled to air on November 22, 2016 on NBC. It will be followed by episode 9, entitled "The Trip", scheduled for November 29.
