“The Winds of Winter” is long overdue and there is no question about it. George RR Martin already missed at least four deadlines and still, the book has yet to be released and it is 2019 now.
George RR Martin previously admitted that he is having a hard time finishing “The Winds of Winter” due to distractions so he decided to confine himself in his cabin to focus. He revealed that he did not even visit the set of the “Game of Thrones” while it was filming the finale and skipped several events since the fans are waiting and he knows they are already frustrated from all the waiting.
This is why when it was reported that the author has been invited to be the guest of honor at the 2019 TitanCon and he accepted, many began to speculate that Martin already completed “The Winds of Winter.” They said that since the 70-year-old writer has left his cabin, then there is a high chance that he is ready to release “TWOW.” Moreover, observers believed that George RR Martin may announce “The Winds of Winter” release date during the TitanCon that will be held from Aug. 22 to 25 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, as fans wait for “The Winds of Winter,” most are also anticipating HBO’s “Game of Thrones” which is set to air next month. This is the series’ finale so everyone is talking about it.
It was learned that George RR Martin has been offered to appear in “GoT” for a cameo role, however, he declined and this is probably due to “The Winds of Winter.” Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss approached the author a long time ago but he refused.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, George RR Martin explained why he declined the invitation: "David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do. But I didn't think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast." Indeed, his refusal to be in “Game of Thrones” finale was due to “The Winds of Winter.”
