“The Winds of Winter” is not yet out and it does not have a release date yet as well. What’s more, the last season of “Game of Thrones” is already coming next month but there is no sign of the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” collection yet. Can George RR Martin really finish “TWOW?”

The 70-year-old author recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly, to talk about the anticipated “The Winds of Winter” and “Game of Thrones” finale. About not being able to deliver the conclusion ahead of the televised version, Martin said that he has “mixed feelings about that.”

He admitted that he is a bit disappointed as “GoT” is ending but is not able to release the printed version of the story via “The Winds of Winter.” “It’s been an incredible ride,” he told the magazine. “And almost all of it has been great but obviously, I wished I finished these books sooner so the show hadn’t gotten ahead of me. I never anticipated that.”

Prior to this interview, George RR Martin already said that he is having a hard time finishing “The Winds of Winter” and even if he is now focused on the book, he is still faced with setbacks such as difficulties of trimming his stories to shorter chapters and mulling whether to take out certain characters or not.

It should be noted that Martin still has to finish two books in the “ASOIAF” series as “A Dream of Spring” is the last chapter after “The Winds of Winter.” Thus, in case, he can’t shorten the chapters, it is possible for the rest of the story to spill over to the seventh and final book.

With two unfinished books and “The Winds of Winter” in the works, George RR Martin has a wish. He really wants to finish them soon so he will dedicate more time on them. And commenting on the finale of “GoT,” he said, “It’s the end for a lot of people but it’s not the end for me.”

Finally, he added, I’m still deeply in it (writing “The Winds of Winter). I better live a long time because I have a lot of work left to do.”
