George RR Martin celebrated his 72nd birthday in the cabin where he is currently confined to finish “The Winds of Winter.” The famous author shared that his friends visited and sent him gifts while he in the mountains and that made him happy.
“I had a pretty nice birthday and thanks to all my fans and friends who sent me greetings by email, text, or (in one case) card,” he wrote on his blog page. “Parris (his wife) came up to the mountains to visit me in my fortress of solitude, the first time she has checked out the cabin, and I was thrilled and delighted to be able to spend some time with her.”
In any case, the fact that her wife has to go on a difficult trip just to celebrate his birthday with him proved that George RR Martin is serious when he said he will focus on writing “The Winds of Winter.” He previously said that his attention is on the sixth book of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series as he also wanted to finish it already.
The frustrating delay of “TWOW”
Fans have expressed their disappointment over GRRM’s failure to complete the book on time. He already missed several deadlines thus the fans’ frustrations are understandable. Back in April, the author even said that people are already harassing him for not writing.
In the interview, he said people would send him emails and messages on social media. Martin said that fans want instant answers when they send him messages but he said this doesn’t help him write faster. Although he tries his best, he finds these harassments on social media rather annoying instead.
At any rate, it is now just the fans who are frustrated for the delay of “The Winds of Winter.” GRRM admitted that he himself also feels the same. He further confessed that it is true he could have completed the book a long time ago but his procrastination and activities led to the delays.
“I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that Winds of Winter isn’t finished,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And I’m mad about that myself. I wished I finished it four years ago. I wished it was finished now.”
Release date
George RR Martin has not given a new deadline for “The Winds of Winter” but he did say that he still has a long way to go. With his statement, the most realistic publishing date window is in mid-2021.
