“The Winds of Winter” has been delayed for at least four times and fans are hoping that George RR Martin will fulfill his promise this time. He assured everyone that he would publish “TWOW” in July 2020 but knowing about his delay record for the release of the sixth book in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, fans can’t help but be skeptical even if he challenged them to imprison him in a cottage so he can finish the book.

“If I don’t have “The Winds of Winter” in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done, he wrote in his blog in May.

Martin was talking about the 78th World Science Fiction Convention that he will be attending on July 29, 2020. Thus, this is also the assumed release date of “The Winds of Winter.” In any case, since he postponed the publication date many times, the author previously explained why this happens.

In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, George RR Martin revealed that he keeps pushing “The Winds of Winter” release date because when he edits the novel, he often ended up scrapping large parts of the story. He was asked about his statements that he “throws away” his writings and he said “yes” the elaborated by saying, “I do. Maybe more than I should, especially with these books, especially as we go deeper,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, or the series is getting more complicated.”

He added that he is also having difficulties with deciding the chronology of his stories; that is why the making of the book gets longer. While these are his reasons why “The Winds of Winter” and his other books get delayed, fans are hoping he will keep his word this time. Besides, people might send him in isolation in a cottage so can he finally finish “TWOW” and in truth, Martin will not let this happen, so he is likely to publish in 2020.
