‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 14, titled “It’s Been a Hell of a Ride,” will follow Damon and Stefan as they work together to stop Cade’s impending attack on Elena’s casket. Meanwhile, Caroline and Alaric struggle to contain the twins’ powers.
The synopsis for “It’s Been a Hell of a Ride” posted on TV Guide states, “Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) join forces against Cade (Wole Parks) in order to save Elena's (Nina Dobrev) casket. Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice King) and Alaric (Matt Davis) deal with their daughters' burgeoning magical powers.”
The upcoming episode will follow the Salvatore brothers as they attempt to save Elena’s casket from Cade’s impending attack. Kai (Chris Wood) put Elena on a sleeping curse in season 6’s episode 22, titled “I’m Thinking of You All the While.” Season 8 will feature her eventual resurrection.
The promo for episode 14 opens with Stefan telling Damon, “Cade is free because of me that’s why I have to kill him.” However, Damon insists that his brother will be putting his life on the line should he go through with his mission. Damon warns, “If you screw this up, we don’t know what he’ll do to Elena.”
According to TV Fanatic, it was speculated that a major character will end up dead as a result of a battle with Cade. A sneak peak hints at Elena’s resurrection but she will be disoriented when she meets Stefan for the very first time since being placed in the sleeping curse.
She asks Stefan, “What happened? Why am I here right now?” Perhaps she knows that the only way she could be awakened from the curse is for Bonnie (Kat Graham) to die.
Meanwhile, Caroline and Alaric will struggle to contain the twins’ magical powers. Josie (Lily Rose Mumford) and Lizzie’s (Tierney Mumford) erratic witch powers have grown significantly as they aged and these continue to worry Caroline and Alaric.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 14, titled “It’s Been a Hell of a Ride,” is scheduled to air on The CW on February 24, 2017. It was directed by Pascal Verschooris and written by Brett Matthews and Shukree Hassan Tilghman. It will be followed by episode 15, titled "We're Planning a June Wedding," directed by Chris Grismer and scheduled to be released on March 3.
