Fans want “The Originals” season 6 and they have been patiently waiting for a renewal announcement since the series’s season 5 ended in August. They also launched a few petitions so that it will not be canceled but their efforts proved to be futile when showrunner Julie Plec relayed that the drama was ending after the fifth installment.
The showrunner announced that “The Originals” season 6 is not happening so fans should just say goodbye to the Mikaelson family instead of waiting for their return. In any case, Julie Plec already warned fans before that they were planning to end the show after completing five seasons, and this was why there were people who were not surprised by the announcement.
TV Line reported that just like the fans, the showrunner also found it hard to bid farewell to the show. However, she is also happy at the same time because she took part in the decision to end “The Originals.”
Julie Plec originally revealed that “The Originals” season 6 was not going to happen via social media. On Twitter, she uploaded a long letter where she stated how proud she is for being part of the show. She also thanked some people who helped in bringing the show to TV and asked fans to say goodbye to the series.
“Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come,” part of her letter reads. “Being able to celebrate the completion of The Vampire Diaries was a joyful and deeply emotional ride, a luxury gifted by Mark Pedowitz at The CW and Peter Roth at WBTV, who, as TV fans themselves, know what it means when a fan is able to say goodbye.”
Meanwhile, fans should not feel so disheartened because Julie Plec shared that although there will never be “The Originals” season 6, spin-offs are possible in the future, so they should look forward to those.
“I think there are future shows down the line that can be spawned out of this world and could tell good stories. It’s a hope for the future if nothing else,” she said.
