‘The Originals’ season 4’s episode 1, titled “Gather Up the Killers,” will pick up after the events of season 3 and will feature Marcel celebrating the fifth year of defeating Klaus. Although he has become the unparalleled king of New Orleans, un-sired vampires will pose a threat to his rule.
The synopsis for “Gather Up the Killers” posted on TV Guide reads, “Season 4 begins. On the fifth anniversary of Klaus' (Joseph Morgan) defeat, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) is king of the city and welcomes the un-sired vampires to New Orleans, only to find they pose an unexpected threat to his rule, which leads him to seek counsel from an unlikely source.
Meanwhile, as Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) closes in on the cure that will allow her to revive Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and the slumbering Mikaelsons, she faces a final task that forces her to make a ruthless decision.”
The supernatural drama spin-off from the popular ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is set to return to the small screen and will pick up very differently from where it left off in season 3. According to Bustle, the upcoming season is set to take place five years following the defeat of Klaus Mikaelson.
In season 3’s finale, Klaus’ vengeful enemies stormed New Orleans and were led by none other than Klaus’ own protégé Marcel, who has transformed into a super hybrid. During the confrontation, Marcel bites Klaus and Elijah while Rebekah (Claire Holt) is slowly turning into a ripper.
Klaus is then put under trial and is stabbed with the Tunde blade. However, he is kept alive but under mental torture. Marcel then keeps Klaus locked away in a dungeon while Hayley continues her desperate search for a cure. Hayley also struggles to take care of her daughter Hope, who is no longer an infant.
Meanwhile, Cami (Leah Pipes) is set to make an appearance despite being killed off in season 3. The promo shows Klaus shouting her name while in containment in the dark dungeon. Cami is then seen sitting behind him, calmly reassuring him that she is there with him.
It seems possible that Klaus is only hallucinating, considering that he is in a dire state in the dungeon. By the end of the promo, Marcel pays Klaus a visit and insists that he has claimed New Orleans as his own. It will be interesting to see if Marcel would ask help from Klaus upon discovering that his leadership in the city is under threat.
‘The Originals’ season 4’s episode 1, titled “Gather Up the Killers,” is scheduled to air on The CW on March 17, 2017. It was directed by Lance Anderson and written by Michael Russo and Michael Narducci. It will be followed by episode 2, titled "No Quarter,” directed by Bethany Rooney and scheduled to be released on March 24.
