‘The Magicians’ season 2’s episode 2, titled “Hotel Spa Potions,” is set to follow Julia and the Beast as they continue their hunt for Julia’s demonic assaulter, Reynard the Fox. The two will team up with an unlikely ally in the upcoming episode.
The synopsis for “Hotel Spa Potions” posted on TV Guide states, “Quentin (Jason Ralph), Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley), Penny (Arjun Gupta) and Margo (Summer Bishil) seek a new weapon;
at the same time, Eliot (Hale Appleman) struggles with being king; and Julia (Stella Maeve) and the Beast (Charles Mesure) find an unexpected ally.”
Meanwhile, executive producer Sera Gamble revealed that season 2 will continue to put focus on Julia and her hunt for the trickster god called Reynard the Fox.
It was revealed in season 1’s episode 13, titled "Have You Brought Me Little Cakes," that Reynard raped Julia and murdered her friends but she asked Marina to erase all her memories of the incident. However, by the end of the episode, Julia made a deal with The Beast to find and kill Reynard.
Gamble explained during an interview with TV Line, “[Julia] is part of the reason that he’s around and continuing to wreak havoc… So she really needs to stop him. And she is dealing with the aftereffects of [his] attack on every possible level.” She added that although The Beast was essentially a villain in the previous season, viewers will get to know the character on a more complex level.
The television writer and producer also teased that this season would hold major character deaths. Gamble said, “I can say that major characters will die this season… So we have fun, but it’s also very serious at times.” Gamble also revealed that musical numbers may be expected throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Quentin and the rest of the group will also hunt down a new weapon. Season 2’s premiere picked up right after the events of season 1’s finale.
‘The Magicians’ season 2’s episode 2, titled “Hotel Spa Potions,” is scheduled to air on Syfy on February 1, 2017. It was directed by Chris Fisher and will be followed by episode 3, titled "Divine Elimination," scheduled for February 8.
