‘The Legend of Tarzan’ actor Alexander Skarsgard Looks Ripped in New Poster, Injured Filming Intimate Scene with Co-Star Margot Robbie

Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie as Tarzan and Jane on 'The Legend of Tarzan'

‘The Legend of Tarzan’ released its newest theatrical poster showing a ripped Alexander Skarsgard as the titular character. The actor also revealed that he was injured while filming an intimate scene with co-star Margot Robbie, who plays his on-screen wife Jane.

The new poster featured on The Daily Mail shows Skarsgard and Robbie looking fierce and rain-drenched in the jungle while standing in the midst of a group of apes. The poster’s tagline read ‘Human. Nature.’

Skarsgard stood shirtless and looked incredibly fit for his new role as the iconic Tarzan, a man raised by apes as a feral child in the jungles of Africa. Robbie plays his wife Jane Porter.

The 39-year old Swedish actor, best known for his roles on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ and ‘Zoolander’, shared his extreme training regimen for preparing a Tarzan-worthy physique during a previous interview with E! News. He said, "I obviously had a very, very good trainer… I basically had him and a nutritionist. I've never done anything like this before, this extreme. I was just really nervous. It was a big challenge and I didn't know how my body would respond to the training and diet."

Skarsgard also admitted that he got injured while filming an intense love-making scene with Robbie. According to The Mirror, he said, "Even though I'm fighting apes, the only injury I got was from a sex scene with Margot - she hit me!... Our director David Yates wanted our sex scene to be really animalistic, so he was behind the camera saying things like, 'Hit him harder! Come on!'… He kind of egged us on and wanted to feel very primal, so she beat me up!" The scene reportedly left Skarsgard with a bruise.

The new film tells the story of Tarzan leaving the jungle to settle into an aristocratic life in London with his wife Jane as John Clayton III, the third Viscount of Greystoke. He then finds himself returning to the Congo as a trade representative for the House of Commons unaware of Belgian captain Leon Rom’s (Christoph Waltz) treacherous schemes.

Meanwhile, the film directed by David Yates has a production budget of $180 million. According to the Tarzan Files, the film’s budget was previously reported at $120 million with a planned cut-down to $90 million. No confirmation of the actual figures has been made as of the present.

‘The Legend of Tarzan’ is an upcoming action-adventure film based on the character first created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is produced under Village Roadshow Pictures, Jerry Weintraub Productions, Riche/Ludwig Productions, and Beaglepug Productions and distributed through Warner Bros. Pictures. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 1, 2016.
