It looks like the writer whose book series the show is based on is making a cameo appearance in “The Last Kingdom” Season 3.
A recent post on Twitter has confirmed that Bernard Cornwell will be making an appearance in the upcoming season in a cameo role. The show is an adaptation of Cornwell's historical novel series “The Saxon Stories,” and “The Last Kingdom” Season 3 will reportedly cover the fifth (The Burning Land) and sixth (Death of Kings) books in the series.
During a question and answer session on his official website last month, Cornwell confirmed he had filmed a scene in the seventh episode of the upcoming season. But at the time, he wasn’t sure if he would make the final cut.
“We do not know the release date yet (but will post it once it's been announced). They kindly asked me to do a cameo and I appear (unless I end on the cutting room floor) in episode 7. It was a hoot. I won’t say what Uhtred does to me on camera, but off camera we had a terrific time,” Cornwell said.
Unlike the previous season, “The Last Kingdom” Season 3 will feature 10 episodes, and it will air exclusively on Netflix. The streaming giant joined the series as co-producer for Season 2 after BBC America dropped out, citing disappointing ratings in the U.S. The second season continued to air on BBC Two in the U.K., but now the show is heading to Netflix.
Alexander Dreymon will reprise his role as Uhtred in “The Last Kingdom” Season 3, and series regulars David Dawson, Ian Hart, Emily Cox, Tobias Santelmann, Toby Regbo, and Eliza Butterworth will return to play Alfred, Father Beocca, Brida, Ragnar the Younger, Aethelred, and Aelswith, respectively.
Netflix has yet to announce the release date for “The Last Kingdom” Season 3, but it will likely come out before the end of the year.
