Some anime fans might have already lost hope that the “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will ever hit the small screen. They should not be blamed considering that it has been over five years since the first season concluded and updates about the anime’s renewal were very elusive until last October.

It was announced this fall that “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 has entered production. Other details have also been confirmed indicating that the decision was made for a while now.

'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 release date, production

Fans will be much happier to know that “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 is scheduled to air in 2020. Whether that happens early or late in the year is still unknown, but the good thing is the waiting period has been narrowed down to just a year.

The good news does not stop there, especially for those who saw the movie “The Irregular at Magic High School: The Girl Who Calls the Stars” in 2017 and loved it. “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will be produced by Eight Bit, the same studio that animated the said film. Familiar names are also coming back to work on the second movie including director Honda Risako and voice actors Nakamura Yuichi as Tatsuya Shiba, Hayami Saori as Miyuki Shiba, and Hikasa Youko as Angelina Kudou Shields.

'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 plot, episode count

While the team that helmed the movie is coming back, it should be noted that “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will pick up from the events of the anime's first season and not the 2017 film. Season 2 will only cover Visitor Arc with a story that spans through three light novel volumes.

That is less source material than what was used for season 1. This leads to the anticipation that “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will have fewer episodes.

Angelina’s arrival is central to the plot of “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2. Expect the character to be introduced differently as the anime obviously will use her canon story.
